The Buzz {5}

Oh man, it feels so good to be back...kind of! I was able to post just to let everyone know my computer is on the fritz... so my dear, sweet boyfriend has left his work laptop for me to use while he is in Ireland. Yep, you just read it - he's in Ireland... I'm so jealous! But this gives me ample book reading and blogging time, which isn't too shabby!

So what's been up in the past week and a half since I've been unable to post? Eh, not too much! But a few things....

Mindful Musings

So I've been kind of compiling a bunch of different daily memes into one conglomeration that I call The Buzz. I like it, but I feel like I need more. I've been perusing other book blogs in the YA World and am seeing a few different memes that have piqued my interest... so let me know what your favorite memes are, and which ones that I should (consider) partaking in... if anyone does the TGIF post hosted by GReads let me know if you like it and why... thanks in advance :))

So that's it for me... for now!!

Let me know how everything is in your world, and what you're reading or just finished/anticipate reading!

The Buzz {3}

Welcome to The Buzz - a weekly post that showcases new books on my shelves, any bookish news that is share-worthy, and anything else I feel like adding: book trailers, release dates, cover reveals, etc.

On My Bookshelf

So, it's kind of been awhile since I've updated new books so I guess we will start there!

Dreaming Anastasia & Haunted by Joy Preble
PhotobucketPhotobucket  I won these *signed* books during the YA Scavenger Hunt way back when (yes, I'm THAT far behind!) Big thanks to Joy Preble for signing these and offering them up as a prize! I cannot wait to read them, and the third book of the series, Anastasia Forever, releases August 1, 2012

The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo by Stieg Larsson
PhotobucketThis one actually just showed up at my doorstep one day after I completed a survey on Goodreads. I am so not arguing with free books! While this really isn't my *type* of book, its received rave reviews so I will most likely give it a whirl. This is the first book in the Millenium Series.

And then I went on an (Kobo) E-Book buying spree....

On My Radar - June Edition (Part 1)
Here are some of the June 2012 releases that are on my radar.

This Is Not A Test by Courtney Summers
Expected Publication: June 19th 2012 by St. Martin's Griffin

"It's the end of the world. Six students have taken cover in Cortege High but shelter is little comfort when the dead outside won't stop pounding on the doors. One bite is all it takes to kill a person and bring them back as a monstrous version of their former self. To Sloane Price, that doesn't sound so bad. Six months ago, her world collapsed and since then, she's failed to find a reason to keep going. Now seems like the perfect time to give up. As Sloane eagerly waits for the barricades to fall, she's forced to witness the apocalypse through the eyes of five people who actually want to live. But as the days crawl by, the motivations for survival change in startling ways and soon the group's fate is determined less and less by what's happening outside and more and more by the unpredictable and violent bids for life - and death - insude. When everything is gone, what do you hold on to?"

For Darkness Shows the Stars by Diana Peterfreund
Expected Publication: June 12th 2012 by Balzer+Bray

Generations ago, a genetic experiment gone wrong - the Reduction - decimated humanity, giving rise to a Luddite nobility who outlawed most technology.

"Elliot North has always known her place in this world. Four years ago Elliot refused to run away with her childhood sweetheart, the servant Kai, choosing duty to her family's estate over love. Since then the world has changed: a new class of Post-Reductionists is jumpstarting the wheel of progress, and Elliot's estate is foundering, forcing her to rent land to the mysterious Cloud Fleet, a group of shipbuilders that include renowned explorer Captain Malakai Wentforth - an almost unrecognizable Kai. And while Elliot wonders if this could be her second chance, Kai seems determined to show Elliot exactly what she gave up when she let him go.

But Elliot soon discovers her old friend carries a secret - one that could change their society . . . or bring it to its knees. And again, she's faced with a choice: cling to what she's been raised to believe, or cast her lot with the only boy she's ever loved, even if she's lost him forever.

Inspired by Jane Austen's Persuasion, For Darkness Shows the Stars is a breathtaking romance about opening your mind to the future and your heart to the one person you know can break it."

Lies Beneath by Anne Greenwood Brown
Expected Publication: June 12th 2012 by Delacorte Books for Young Readers

"Calder White lives in the cold, clear waters of Lake Superior, the only brother in a family of murderous mermaids. To survive, Calder and his sisters prey on humans, killing them to absorb their energy. But this summer the underwater clan targets Jason Hancock out of pure revenge. They blame Hancock for their mother's death and have been waiting a long time for him to return to his family's homestead on the lake. Hancock has a fear of water, so to lure him in, Calder sets out to seduce Hancock's daughter, Lily. Easy enough - especially as Calder has lots of practic using his irresistible good looks and charm on unsuspecting girls. Only this time Calder screws everything up: he falls for Lily - just as Lily starts to suspet that there's more to the monsters-in-the-lake legends than she ever imagined. And just as his sisters are losing patience with him."

My Life Next Door by Huntley Fitzpatrick
Expected Publication: June 14th 2012 by Dial Books for Young Readers

"A gorgeous debut about family, friendship, first romance, and how to be true to one person you love without betraying another.

"One thing my mother never knew, and would disapprove of most of all, was that I watched the Garretts. All the time."

The Garretts are everything the Reeds are not. Loud, numerous, messy, affectionate. And every day from her balcony perch, seventeen-year-old Samantha Reed wishes she was one of them ... until one summer evening Jase Garrett climbs her terrace and changes everything. As the two fall fiercely in love, Jase's family makes Samantha one of their own. Then, in an instant, the bottom drops out of her world and she is suddenly faced with an impossible decision. Which perfect family will save her? Or is it time she saved herself?

A dreamy summer read, full of characters who stay with you long after the story is over."

Shadows Cast by Stars by Catherine Knutsson
Expected Publication: June 5th 20120 by Atheneum

"Old ways are pitted against new horrors in this compellingly crafted dystopian tale about a girl who is both healer and seer.

Two hundred years from now, blood has become the most valuable commodity on the planet - especially the blood of aboriginal peoples, for it contains antibodies that protect them from the Plague ravaging the rest of the world.

Sixteen-year-old Cassandra Mercredi might be immune to the Plague, but that doesn't mean she's safe - government forces are searching for those of aboriginal heritage to harvest their blood. When a search threatens Cassandra and her family, they flee to the Island: a mysterious and idyllic territory protected by the Band, a group of guerilla warriors - and by an enigmatic energy barrier that keeps outsiders out and the spirit world in. And though the village healer has taken her under her wing, and the tribal leader's son into his heart, the creatures of the spirit world are angry, and they have chosen Cassandra to be their voice and instrument.

Incorporating the traditions of the First Peoples as well as more familiar stories of Greek mythology and Arthurian legend, Shadows Cast by Stars is a haunting, beautifully written story that breathes new life into ancient customs."

WOW, it's been a good week past few weeks for me! Let's start with my purchases, shall we? Can we say WOO-HOO for 2012 Debut Author Challenge books - Incarnate and Article 5? I am SUPER psyched for both of these which were previous WoW's for me. Excited for Forbidden too - love me some angel stories! And Void looks like a good little 3-in-1 dystopian. I picked up Where I Belong to fill my need for contemp-romance.

On to my E-Book purchases ... I really lucked out this week! I picked up Angel Fire for Violet (aka my Kobo touch ... yes. I named her, and yes, she is purple. Wanna fight about it? No? Ok good. - yes i know i'm weird and I'm okay with that!!! ha ha) This is the second book in the Angel trilogy by LA Weatherly and I'm super stoked. I got this one cheap thanks to a 20% off coupon!  Also scoring big with Unearthly - which yay, I can reread before getting Hallowed! - Withering Tights and The Poison Diaries which I picked up all 3 for only 99 cents a piece! Yep - I know, you're totally jellz right?

And holy cannelloni the library helped me make out like a bandit as well! I'm really digging the fantasy genre lately ... I forgot to include Graceling by Kristin Cashore here, but I'm currently reading that and really can't wait to jump into The Demon King. Stolen Away is my first book for my "Very Fairy February" theme, and Revolution is a must-read since I adore Jennifer Donnelly's adult series (The Tea Rose, The Winter Rose, and The Wild Rose).

I wanna know what you got this week so comment below!!

Until Next Time - Happy Reading!!

CITY OF BONES
#1 - The Mortal Instruments
By: Cassandra Clare
Published: March 27, 2007  by Margaret K. McElderry Books
How I Got It: Purchased
_____________________________
What It's About: When fifteen-year-old Clary Fray heads out to the Pandemonium Club in New York City, she hardly expects to witness a murder - much less a murder committed by three teenagers covered with strange tattoos and brandishing bizarre weapons. Then the body disappears into thin air. It's hard to call the policy when the murderers are invisible to everyone else and when there is nothing - not even a smear of blood - to show that a boy has died. Or was he a boy?

This is Clary's first meeting with the Shadowhunters, warriors dedicated to ridding the earth of demons. It's also her first encounter with Jace, a Shadowhunter who looks a little like an angel and acts a lot like a jerk. Within twenty-four hours Clary is pulled into Jace's world with a vengeance, when her mother disappears and Clary herself is attacked by a demon. But why would demons be interested in ordinary mundanes like Clary and her mother? And how did Clary suddently get the Sight? The Shadowhunters would like to know.

Exotic and gritty, exhilarating and utterly gripping, Cassandra Clare's ferociously entertaining fantasy takes readers on a wild ride that they will never want to end.

I tried reading this one a year or so ago and didn't finish it. After reconnecting with an old high school friend recently, she begged me to try it again since it's one of her favorite series. I gave in and picked up the first book in the series and will give it a second shot!

LOLA and the BOY NEXT DOOR
Companion Novel to: Anna and the French Kiss
By: Stephanie Perkins
Hardcover, 338 pages
Published: September 29th, 2011 by Dutton
How I Got It: Library
_____________________________
Budding designer Lola Nolan doesn't believe in fashion ... she believes in costume. The more expressive the outfit - more sparkly, more fun, more wild - the better. But even though Lola's style is outrageous, she's a devoted daughter and friend with some big plans for the future. And everything is pretty perfect (right down to her hot rocker boyfriend) until the dreaded Bell twins, Calliope and Cricket, return to the neighborhood.

When Cricket - a gifted inventor - steps out from his twin sister's shadow and back into Lola's life, she must finally reconcile a lifetime of feelings for the boy next door.

I LOVED (LOVED , LOVED , LOVED !) Anna and the French Kiss so there was no chance in heck that I was going to pass this one up!

THE NIGHT CIRCUS
By: Erin Morgenstern
Hardcover, 387 pages
Published: September 13th, 2011 by Doubleday
How I Got It: Library
_____________________________
The circus arrives without warning. No announcements precede it. It is simply there, when yesterday it was not. Within the black-and-white striped canvas tents is an utterly unique experience full of breathtaking amazements. It is called Le Cirque des Reves, and it is only open at night.

But behind the scenes, a fierce competition is underway - a duel between two young magicians, Celia and Marco, who have been trained since childhood expressly for this purpose by their mercurial instructors. Unbeknownst to them, this is a game in which only one can be left standing, and the circus is but the stage for a remarkable battle of imagination and will. Despite themselves, however, Celia and Marco tumble headfirst into love - a deep, magical love that makes the lights flicker and the room grow warm whenever they so much as brush hands.

True love or not, the game must play out, and the fates of everyone involved, from the cast of extraordinary circus performers to the patrons, hang in the balance, suspended as precariously as the daring acrobats overhead.

Written in rich, seductive prose, this spell-casting novel is a feast for the senses and the heart.

Not going to lie - the cover completely pulled me in on this one. I've seen it around the Book-blogging world and knew I'd have to add it to my "Read" pile.

THE HUNGER GAMES
#1 - The Hunger Games Trilogy
By: Suzanne Collins
Hardcover, 374 pages
Published: December 14th, 2009 by Scholastic, Inc.
_____________________________
In the ruins of a place once known as North America lies the nation of Panem, a shining Capitol surrounded by twelve outlying districts. The Capitol is harsh and cruel and keeps the districts in line by forcing them all to send one boy and one girl between the ages of twelve and eighteen to participate in the annual Hunger Games, a fight to the death on live TV.

Sixteen-year-old Katniss Everdeen, who lives alone with her mother and younger sister, regards it as a death sentence when she steps forward to take her sister's place in the Games. But Katniss has been close to dead before - and survival, for her, is second nature. Without really meaning to, she becomes a contender. But if she is to win, she will have to start making choices that will weigh survival against humanity and life against love.

Don't worry - I've already read the trilogy! However I had only borrowed them from the library and finally realized a reread was necessary before the movie comes out - and it seemed like the perfect time to add it to my collection. This is at the top of my favorite YA books of all time - and think everyone should read it!

TITLE: Blood on the Moon
By: Jennifer Knight
Paperback, 416 pages
Published: August 30th, 2011 by Perseus Books
How I got it: Purchased

As Faith Reynolds enters her freshman year of college, she is a complete and utter nervous wreck. With her best friend Derek suddenly pulling out the romance card and her dark, mysterious classmate staring her down at every turn, Faith somehow feels stuck in the middle without dating either one. And fortune may or may not be with her when a devilishly sexy stranger offers her a welcome escape.

Boys, romance, classes and annoying roommates are all within the realm of the expected for a college frosh. Trying to solve the mysterious murders of young college coeds near campus is not. Darkness seems to be creeping into every corner of Faith's life, no matter the hour. And when she seeks the truth, danger seems to be the only thing that finds her.

Faith is well aware of the strange currents in the air, particularly when she sets off static sparks with everything she touches. Before long, she finds herself entrenched in the deep-seeded battle between werewolves and vampires. The war has reached the tipping point, and Faith has the power to determine where the scales fall. But the most important question may be with whom does her loyalty lie?

Deliciously suspenseful and immediately addictive, Blood on the Moon features a headstrong heroine and all of the thrills, chills, and otherworldly boys with deadly charm that a human could ask for.
